For Birders, Salt River & Altona Lagoon offers pristine mangrove habitats holding a variety of Herons, Egrets, Shore-Birds, and Migrating Birds. Iguanas & Juvenile Fish are also commonly spotted in the mangroves

Salt River Bay - Home to the largest Mangrove Forest on St. Croix, this 200acre lagoon has a large inlet which acts as a funnel providing incredible shallow water habitats and feeding ground for Turtles, Birds, Iguanas, and many other species.

Krause Lagoon - The largest Mangrove habitat on the Southshore, Krause Lagoon is one of the most biodiverse lagoons in the entire Caribbean. With a combination of Grass Flats, Mangroves, and a deep industrial channel you never know who you'll see cruising or flying around!
Best for seeing Giant Turtles, Eagle Rays, Migratory Birds and on rare occasions Dolphins!
Altona Lagoon - Tucked away between Christiansted and The Buccaneer is the second largest Mangrove forest on the Island at 160 Acres, Altona Lagoon has a breathtaking mangrove tunnel with crystal clear water that opens up into a Mangrove lined lagoon. Altona Lagoon remains one of the last undeveloped mangrove lagoons in the Caribbean and is a must explore for those who have never been before!
